Partially Neutral Zebra Stripe

Iowa: the state of vivid blue skies, picture-esque grain elevators, and an excessive number of fabric stores. In just five short days we will be biking through its golden cornfields and consuming excessive amounts of blue bunny ice cream as a part of the RAGBRAI ride across Iowa. After being peer pressured into a ham-pita sandwich (because apparently cheese is overrated), I'm sitting down to pen the beginning of our adventures and introduce the participants:

1) Kristen Brown: A short, sarcastic intellectual who makes you want to go to an orphanage, adopt her, and dress her up in Betsy Johnson clothing.

2) Susanna McLin: A soon-to-be art student who enjoys long walks in the park, holding hands, and making friends with ethnic people.

3) Monika Martin (me): A cat loving hippie who has a chocolate bar costume fetish. Cheers to Medieval Life!

(Obvious I didn't write that. But it's all true.)

Other participants include Kristen's awesome mother who is partially sponsoring the trip, Kristen's brother, fellow-biker/hippie Fish, and her father (the driver...thank god it's not us this year. No more getting lost in Nebraska/South Dakota)

...and some unknown man who is friends with Fish and also biking with us. We have named him Fred.

Until our next post,

GO HARD RAGBRAI 2011 OR GO HOME AND RUN CROSS COUNTRY SHOUT OUT....

  1. Actually, it's Valerie, a she who is a former student and a teacher - she'll be teaching high school journalism in Taiwan in the fall after the past year in Beirut.
